Mia Lora - Reflection 2

Group #4 (My Group)
Our presentation focused on immigration policies and healthcare access. We explained how knowing current laws and advocating for fair reforms can make a big difference in people’s lives, especially for immigrants who struggle to get the healthcare they need. We also talked about how community programs help people who don’t have insurance and the ongoing debate about whether everyone should receive care, regardless of legal status. Working on this helped me see how much ethics and policy go hand in hand and why healthcare is seen as a basic human right.

Being in this group was honestly a good experience. Everyone brought strong information, and we communicated well when putting the PowerPoint and brochure together. We even coordinated our outfits, which made us look organized and professional. Some members included current immigration issues, and that made our presentation feel relevant. As for me, I still get nervous when I present, and I depend on my notes more than I want to, but I made sure to look up at the audience when I could. Even with the nerves, I feel like I improved from my last presentation. I want to keep working on speaking more confidently. Overall, I’m proud of how we worked together and how much effort we put into our project.

Group #3
Group #3 talked about the history of immigration, why families come to the U.S., and the challenges children face with language and identity. They included interviews and personal experiences, which made their presentation feel more emotional and realistic instead of just research-based. I liked how they connected older immigration patterns to what families still deal with today. Their visuals were clean and easy to follow, and the mix of stories and facts helped me understand how immigration affects people long-term. Even just reviewing their slides gave me a better understanding of how complicated adjusting to a new country can be.

Group #2
Group #2 focused on environmental health and the impact pollution has on communities. They talked about big events like Donora and Love Canal, which I didn’t know much about before, and explained how those crises led to the environmental laws we have today. Their group coordinated outfits too, which looked nice and made everything seem more put together. A few parts were a little hard to follow — one member arrived late, and some presenters read directly from their slides — but overall, they explained the information clearly. Their visuals were strong, especially when connecting global pollution problems to issues happening in Miami-Dade.

Group #1
Group #1 presented on the connection between the American economy and education. They showed how rising college costs and student loan debt affect families, and they used clear statistics to show how education levels impact income. I liked how they included Chile as an example of how investing in education can change a country’s future. Their interviews also made the topic feel more personal. Their slides were organized and easy to understand, and their research showed how education and the economy are linked in ways people don’t always think about.
